focus: igniting an ecosystem of health startups that reach the underserved
about: India has a bold aspiration of achieving universal health coverage. one billion Indians have no financial protection against health care costs. as a result, healthcare related expenses push 70 million into poverty every year. and those who have insurance are only covered for hospital care. chronic diseases which take more lives than all other diseases combined should be addressed well before hospitalization. to achieve universal health coverage, India must overcome barriers to progress: gaps in the workforce, breakages in last mile delivery, challenges in pooling risk through insurance models, to name a few. startups are powerful engines of innovation that can help tackle such challenges, but until now they have principally served the urban, upper classes. Janm Ventures will ignite an ecosystem of healthcare startups dedicated to those at the base of the pyramid.
